nadan chemmeen masala(prawns in spicy gravy)

This time I got another typical kerala dish for you with fresh prawns. I happened to see some fresh prawns at walmart one day and I could’nt resist from getting it as the mouthwatering taste of chemmeen curry from home was tempting me to buy it. Even though I did’nt get the full taste of our homely chemmeen it turned out to be good enough. Here is the recipe…..

1)fresh prawns(you may opt to buy the frozen ones but be careful not to overcook it as it becomes hard the more you cook it)         400grams

2)onions(cut to thin slices)    1 no

3)ginger(finely chopped)      1/2 “piece

4) garlic                            4-5 pods

6)coccum(kudam puli)  2 nos

7)green chillies   3 nos

8)cocconut (grated)   4tablespoons

10) coriander powder   1tsp

14) cooking oil        4tsp

E) When the mustard splitter add the ginger and garlic and after a few seconds add the onions , and curry leaves F) When it turns brown ,add the chilli, turmeric , coriander and the garam masala and heat it for 10 seconds.G) Add the prawns and coccum to this and mix thoroughly.H) Turn down the heat to low and cover it with a lid until the prawns are cooked H) Once the prawns are cooked add the  coconut gravy ,salt and little bit of water.I) Bring it to boil and turn off the heat once  the gravy is thickened.J) Garnish with the green chillies and serve hot.
